We all have people on our timelines that go “live” at events instead of just taking video and posting it later. Or know someone that will accidentally go from landscape mode to portrait mid-video and hurt our necks as we follow along.
Some will follow along live or watch not-to-long afterwards, commenting as they watch – but rarely will they go back months later to watch the video.
Nine years after it was introduced, where billions, if not trillions, of hours of content lives on the platform, Facebook is clearing its cache and removing Facebook Live videos older than 30 days. Thankfully, they’re providing options for users before automatically and permanently deleting the videos.
According to Facebook:
As part of this transition, all live 1videos currently older than 30 days will be removed, and you will not be able to access them anymore. The deletion process will take place in waves over the coming months, and we are providing new tools for people to download their old live videos before they are gradually deleted. Before your archival live videos are deleted, you will receive a notification. Once received, you will have 90 days to choose what to do with your old live content: download to your device, transfer to your cloud storage, or convert to a new reel.

Facebook has provided a step-by-step on how to do one of the three options should you go that route (pronounced root, not rOUT)
If you still can’t decide what to do – Facebook will allow you to postpone deletion for six months.
Personally, this isn’t a bad idea as long as people remember to do something with their video. I know I don’t watch old videos until they pop up in Memories.
The only issue I see is that it taking up actual space on your device if you don’t save it to a cloud.
How do you feel about this change? Do you still use the live feature?
