If you weren’t aware, Tuesday, October 17th, is the “perfect” storm for the South Philly Sports Complex.
- Philadelphia Flyers Home Opener – 6:00 pm vs Vancouver Canucks at Wells Fargo Center (originally scheduled for 7:00).
- International Soccer Friendly – the Mexican National Team vs the German National Team at 7:30 pm at Lincoln Financial Field (originally scheduled for 8:00).
- NLCS Game 2 – Philadelphia Phillies vs Arizona Dbacks at 8:07 pm at Citizens Bank Park.
That’s approximately 100,000 fans across three venues all within two hours. Even if you’ve been to one packed crowd at either the Linc or Citizens Bank, you know parking is a nightmare. Well, add in two more events with another 55,000 fans. While they all don’t drive, a lot do. There just isn’t enough parking spaces to accommodate everyone.
Bud Light and Budweiser jumped in the other day to say that riders to AND from NRG Station (Pattison Ave. for those who don’t know) ride for free after 5:00 pm as part of Anheuser Busch’s safe rides programs. Rides home from Eagles regular season games and Phillies Postseason games have typically been sponsored, but not both directions – before AND after the games.
Now, the Philadelphia Parking Authority is making it a little easier if you still want to (or have no other choice but to) drive Tuesday night.
After 5:00 pm, metered parking will not be enforced citywide and they’re also offering $5 rates at four garages around Center City / Old City.
- AutoPark at Independence Mall (5th & Market Streets)
- AutoPark at the Fashion District (10th & Filbert Streets)
- AutoPark at Old City (2nd & Sansom Streets)
- Parkade on 8th (801 Filbert Street)

Having three major events at the same time is rare and not ideal but just plan accordingly. Leave yourself enough time and maybe take a half day on Wednesday?
